Proto Manufacturing Limited

PROTO MANUFACTURING LTD. established in 1967 provides automated
nondestructive residual stress analysis and applied stress
analysis systems, equipment and services. Our Mission Statement:
Our team is dedicated to customer satisfaction, by supplying the
best technology and knowledge with quality, service and value in
our poducts and services. Our Research Partners have included:
Boeing, NRC, Ford Motor Company, Chrysler, General Motors, AECL
(Atomic Energy Canada Ltd.), Ontario Hydro Technologies, DREA
(Defence Research Establishment Atlantic), and others.

Proto designs and manufactures residual stress and applied
stress analysis systems that can be used in the field and under
extreme environmental conditions. Based on x-ray diffraction ,
the systems measure residual stress nondestructively and
quantiatively - allowing Residual Stress Tracking on products
before and after various manufacturing processes as well as over
the life of the product. Proto also provides comprehensive
laboratory services, and can travel to make stress analysis and
retained austenite measurements on location with their portable
equipment.

Residual stress plays an important role in fatigue life,
distortion, available component load limits, crack propagation,
stress corrosion cracking, and crack initiation. It is therefore
not surprising that characterizing and managing residual stress
can offer the following benefits: - reduce maintenance costs -
reduce material costs - improve product quality - optimize
product life - shorten your design cycle - get your product to
market faster - reduce liability costs - reduce testing costs -
improve your bottom line

Products

Automated Nondestructive Test Systems

Residual Stress Analysis Systems
Proto Mfg.Ltd. manufactures a complete line of Nondestructive Stress Analysis Systems for both portable and laboratory use. The systems are currently the smallest and fastest systems of their kind in the world. Available options include, Automated Stress Mapping and Simultaneous residual stress and retained austenite measurement. Proto also offers custom hardware and software design of x-ray diffraction systems.

X-ray Diffraction Instrumentation

X-ray Tubes
Proto Mfg. designs and manufactures various x-ray tubes. Recent achievements include world's smallest micro focus and fine focus x-ray tubes used in diffraction and imaging applications.

Services

Residual Stress Measurement Services Proto Offers nondestructive residual stress measurement services. These services can be provided through our laboratory as well as in the field. Recent field services include stress measurements on the Brooklyn Bridge NYC, B-2 Bomber, Natural Gas Pipeline, C-141 aircraft, Power Generation Turbine.

Nondestructive Testing R&d Proto provides contract research capabilities to investigate and develop new and or modified nondestructive testing methods. Our people have learned to be highly successful at adaptive design of theory into hardware and software. Proto offers a complete vertically integrated environment from machining to programming.
