Nova Pb Inc. is located in a south shore suburb of Montreal
and is Canada's largest integrated lead recycling facility.
`` Nova Pb`` brand lead is a London Metal Exchange approved
and traded brand, sold through-out the international market
place.
The plant and facilities are employee owned and operated. The
initial capital cost of the project was over $40 million (CND),
however the current replacement value is in excess of $100
million, of which approximately one half is environmental control
related.
The unique nature of long rotary kiln with the closed-loop air
and water circuit, allows Nova the possibility to process a wide
variety of lead bearing materials in addition to lead-acid bat-
teries. Nova captures 99.99% of sulphur emissions and the
materials in addition neutralised sulphuric acid is utilised in
a number of internal cleaning and cooling applications. Finally
over 99% of the polypropylene which originated from the battery
cases is cleaned and shipped for recycling.
Although over 90% of lead-acid batteries are recycled, due to
their nature, all efforts must be encouraged to increase this
recycling rate. Not only will this decrease the burden on the
already over-taxed waste stream, but it will preserve the world's
finite resources so that they can be enjoyed by future
generation.

ferent specifications of lead alloys and each has its elemental
composition certified on a parts per million basis by Nova Pb's
ISO/CEI 25 (ISO9000) laboratory.

Polypropylene Chips : Annually, over 5500 short tons of
multicolored, 2 inch diameter, polypropylene chips which
originated from the battery cases, is cleaned and shipped
for recycling.

kiln gives it the opportunity to safely refine annually more
than 99,000 short tons of lead contaminated material and thus
recycle over 50,000 short tons of lead. The major portion of
lead contaminated material originates from lead-acid batteries
and by-products from the manufacturing of these. In addition
Nova Pb also smelts leaded hazardous waste from a wide range
of industrial sources such as pigments, ammunition and glass
manufacturers. Not only will this decrease the burden of the
already over-taxed waste stream, but will preserve the world's
finite resources so that they can be enjoyed by future
generations.

Waste Oil s : Nova Pb's unique closed loop lon rotary kiln,
elaborate post-combustion unit and sophisticated air filtration
system gives it the opportunity to safely valorize the calorific
features of more than 666,000 imperial gallons of used oils per
year. A significant amount of used oils contaminated by heavy
metals is disposed at our facility and thus insuring the
