Company Description: The Model Forest Agreement was officially launched on April 1, 1993 to pursue integration and sustainable development in forest resource management. The Prince Albert Model Forest Association represents a partnership between government, the forest industry and First Nations organizations. This joint participation in the planning and execution of model forest activities has resulted in a forest management partnership based strongly on an open and co- operative consultation process. As a key player in this agreement, Montreal Lake Cree Nation Resource and Environment has continued to develop information links with other groups involved in forestry management.
Through the Agreement, the Montreal Lake Band has maximized economic benefits and furthered sustainable development within their community. The forestry management plan has increased seasonal employment in the community, allowing members to sustain some culturally-based economic activities, while at the same time supplementing these with other forms of income.
The client base for Montreal Lake Band Forestry Services includes Government, other First Nations, and those involved in the forestry industry.
