Kitchener Hockey Sticks Ltd. has grown from a backyard operation
to an international business occupying a 9,000 sq. ft.
manufacturing facility. Kitchener Hockey Sticks has positioned
itself as a niche marketer, addressing the upscale performance
oriented sporting goods specialty store market. Kitchener
Hockey Sticks has a strong national base of dealers, distributors
and wholesalers. These accounts are maintained by a sales force
of approximately twenty individuals in Canada, forty-five in the
United States and ten in Europe.
Kitchener Hockey Sticks sales have increased in recent years as
the company has improved the product line and addressed a number
of key marketing issues. The product line has been enhanced and
renovated both from a cosmetic and performance perspective; the
sales force has been improved and expanded; advertising has been
created to promote increased brand awareness; and efficiencies
in the plant have been initiated.
Kitchener pioneered the successful introduction of spectra
fibres, an unusually strong and resilient woven cloth to
strengthen blades and enhance durability. The company has also
designed its own moulded pressurized fibreglass technology to
build lighter and stiffer handles. Both innovations have been
well received in various markets.
