Thermally Reclaim Foundry Sand
Gudgeon Brothers manufactures a complete line of thermal sand reclaimers for the foundry industry. Thermally reclaimed sand has proven as good or better than new sand in a variety of foundry settings. Additional benefits to the environment include reduced binder percentages resulting in less odor and smoke during pouring.

Thermal Sand Reclaimer.
Contaminated foundry sand is difficult to reclaim and recycle. Even a small foundry needs to replace 700 tonnes of new sand in a year at a cost of approx $50/tonne. Thermfire (TM) technology system manufactured by Gudgeon enables users to recycle sand at $7/tonne (operating cost) and provides savings in waste transportation and disposal costs. Thermfire (TM) technology is a natural gas-fired thermal sand reclaimer. It removes the residual chemical binder from foundry sand allowing its reuse. Thermfire technology involves feeding sand into a high temperature chamber (550-800C) where it is fluidized around the burner tubes allowing burning off of chemical residues. The systems are managed by a computerized programmable logic controller.

Thermal Sand Reclaimer For Foundry's System
Many foundries are plagued with smoke and odour problems and outside the foundry. These problems usually occur during the pouring, cooling and shake out of the sand moulds. By installing a THERMFIRETM thermal sand reclaimer, the foundry can greatly reduce the chemical content of their system sand, therefore greatly reducing or eliminating the smoke and odour generated during pouring, cooling and shake out of the sand moulds. The other benefit is, of course, the almost total elimination of buying and dumping the sand.
