  • Identify The Type And Quantity Of Asbestos.

The Environmental Sciences Centre (ESC) assists with consultation workplace surveys to identify problem areas, laboratory analysis to identify the specific type and quantity of asbestos present and recommend action plans. Example locations include schools, older homes, office buildings, industrial worksites and recreational buildings. Asbestos sources during abatement procedures include insulation, floor and ceiling tile, pipe wrap, boiler lagging, asbestos cement, mortar and swab or wipe samples.

ESC also assists with monitoring surveys to determine the presence of airborne fibres before, during and after asbestos abatement projects. The analysis will determine fibres/mm2 for samples collected. Results are supported by quality control samples that are part of each asbestos analysis. The identification and counts are carried out in a laboratory accredited by the AIHA since 1983.

The ESC methods and analysis meet with the Manitoba Health Hazard Regulation 53/88 and the guidelines prepared by Manitoba Department of Labour - Guideline for Working with Asbestos and Asbestos Operation and Maintenance Program.

Arrangements can be made for field sample collection.

Analysis includes pesticides/herbicides, hydrocarbon contamination packages (underground storage tank), PCB's trace metals, hydride metals, major ions, nitrogen and phosphorous compounds and microbiological analysis.

Wastewater effluent monitoring includes sample collection, analysis and reporting. Analysis meets municipal sanitary sewer water requirements and local discharge licenses. Analysis examples include BOD, COD, oil and grease, solids, microbiological, nitrogen cycle, trace metals, major ions, cyanide, BTEX, hydrocarbons and trihalomethanes.
