D.S.R. Harcourts Limited

Mr. George Harcourt founded our company in 1842 and the company
has been located in Toronto since that time. The Harcourts
family operated the business as a family concern until 1965 and
created a wonderful legacy consisting of a clientele of the
leading figures in Canada and the world since the second half of
the 19th century. Over the last forty years, we have prepared
garments for nearly every member of the Royal family including
Queen Elizabeth II, leading American political figures such as
Robert Kennedy and we understand that we are the only Canadian
company to produce the red ceremonial gowns worn by the Justices
of the Supreme Court of Canada. The business has been operated
by the Cooper family since 1973. During such time we have
attempted to live up to the standards established by
Mr.Harcourts.

Harcourts is proud of the loyalty that its employees and
customers have shown to the company. Our customers understand
how we conduct business and in many cases are familiar with our
craftsman. Our staff believe that working for Harcourts is the
most esteemed position available in the garment trade. They are
aware of who will wear the results of their work and take the
initiative to make certain that the end users are not
disappointed. The staff at Harcourts have been with us for many
years.

As a result of the training that has taken place over the last
five years, the company is more productive than it has ever
been. Our staff is now diverse in every way including age,
culture, education and life experience. This diversity lends
itself to innovation and product improvement.

Harcourts has historically been the primary supplier to the
legal profession. We continue to maintain that position through
our network of dealers across Canada. We supply many of the
provinces and Federal government with our products, including
holding the prestigious Ontario Ministry of the Attorney General
contract. We believe, and our customer loyalty supports, that
our products are the best available. The materials that we use
have been time tested and in some cases are made exclusively for
Harcourts in order for us to offer the best product. We strive
to continually improve our product and reward our employees for
creative ideas which lead to product innovation.

Harcourts traditionally has produced most of its products from
its plant which is adjacent to our showroom. We believe that
this set up allows us complete control over quality and delivery.

With respect to the workmanship in our products, we attempt to
combine the best of the age old methods and modern technology.
For example, the modern sewing machinery produces a stronger,
longer lasting garment. However, hand sewing adds a look of
quality to the final product. Thus, we will use machine sewing
for areas which are under stress and use hand sewing where it
will add to the appearance of our product. Traditionally, fine
robes have had large flowing sleeves which contribute to the
appearance of the outfit. Although we have researched other
methods, all of our gowns are hand shirred which is the only way
to produce the traditional styling. The hand shirring process
requires more time and fabric than machined methods.
