ABL Environmental Consultants Ltd.

ABL Environmental is a consulting firm and technology provider offering investigative, design and operational services and supplying technologies which we have developed. ABL specializes in process design for wastewater treatment and control, potable water treatment, solid waste management and environmental impact assessment.

ABL Environmental also provides audit, operations, training and management services for treatment facilities. It provides expertise for plant audits, process testing and trouble shooting, plant operator training, environmental monitoring and reporting, and also provides contract operator services. ABL currently employs certified treatment plant operators to assist in training and to operate plants for municipalities and industry.

ABL Environmental is able to provide complete expert services for project implementation. Projects are developed through planning, design, tendering, construction inspection, operator training, plant commissioning, into operations and ongoing maintenance. ABL can undertake complete design-build-operate services for water and wastewater treatment plants.

Areas of specialization include:

Wastewater Collection and Treatment: design studies, bench and pilot treatability studies, process and plant design, wastewater collection and pumping, sludge management and disposal.

Water Treatment and Distribution: design studies, bench and pilot treatability studies, process design, complete plant design, water distribution, storage and pumping, treatment plant sludge management and disposal.

Solid waste management including landfills, recycling systems, composting systems, and gass collection and handling.

ABL Products:

ABL has developed their own line of products including: the ABL-SBR a sequencing batch reactor with 15 installations up to 5000 cubic metres/day, the Biological Pyramid Process a green house treatment system for tertiary treatment of effluents, the Ozone Slow Sand Process a potable water treatment process, and the Lunenburg process a fixed film biological process in combination with dissolved air flotation clarifiers.

Environmental Products And Services

Abl Has Developed A Greenhouse Treatment Technology Which Enables Tertiary Quality Effluent From Existing Secondary Plants.
The ABL biopyramid system is designed to provide effluent filtration using biological systems. It is lower in capital and operating costs compared to filter systems. It is the ideal retrofit to an existing plant that needs to have improved effluent quality. It can be used as an add on to the ABL-SBR system to providetertiary effluent quality. ABL can assess the fit with the existing system, estimate costs and design the full scale installation. For warm climates or lager systems, a greenhouse may not be necessary.

Abl Has Designed A Dissolved Air Flotation System For Removing Oil And Oil Emulsions For Water.
This system is marketed through Rawdon Technologies of Sydney Nova Scotia, Canada. The modular packaged systems can remove greases and oils form industry and from shipping. The tanks are stainless steel and are complete with skimmers and controls.

Abl Has Designed Packaged Water Treatment Plants Marketed Through Rawdon Technologies Inc. Of Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada.
These plants use dissolved air flotation and filtration to provide high quality potable water. Modular plant sizes are up to 2 cubic meter/minute and multiple plants can be installed to achieve higher capacities. Plants are constructed in stainless steel and are complete with controls. Entire systems can be provided including chemical feed equipment and pumps. Engineering services can be provided as well as construction services. The plants are simple to operate and produce water exceeding the Canadian drinking water guidelines.

Ozone Slow Sand Filtration Water Treatment Requiring No Addition Of Chemicals Such As Alum, And Simple To Operate And Maintain.
ABL Environmental Consultants has developed a water treatment process which is based on proven water treatment components in an innovative arrangement. The process is designed to remove particulate, destroy parasites and colour without the addition of chemical coagulants (alum) and reduce the potential of THM formation typically found in raw surface waters subjected to chlorination. The process consists of using ozone pretreatment to enhance flocculation, remove tastes and odours and oxidize colour compounds and metals, and destroy water borne pathogens. The pretreated water is applied to a sand filter which is allowed to develop a biologically-active layer. The functions of the sand filter are to remove particulate matter by filtration and to biologically treat the residual organic compounds. Operation and maintenance of the filtration system is simple, and mainly consists of removing the thin biologically-active surface layer when the water level over the filter reaches the high water mark. The system is designed to have multiple units so that taking one unit out of service for servicing is not disruptive. The benefits of using the system are as follows: The colour, taste and odour of the treated water are significantly reduced. The requirement for chemical coagulants are eliminated, and the requirements for addition of pH adjusting chemicals are reduced. The problem of sludge handling and disposal associated with the conventional treatment systems is eliminated. A significant lowering of the THM formation potential would be achieved. The drinking water quality is greatly improved at lower capital and operating costs than the conventional treatment systems.

Abl Sequencing Batch Reactor (sbr) Wastewater Treatment Technology. Over 15 Installations With Capacities Exceeding 5000 Cubic Metres/Day
Treatment of wastewater is expensive in construction and operating costs. Treatment plants typically require highly skilled operators to maintain equipment. The Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) wastewater treatment technology developed by ABL, can be operated and controlled remotely, while employing local unskilled labour for maintenance of equipment. With the growth in the use of microprocessor based Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and the increase in the reliability of these systems, SBR treatment technology has become the most economical method for many wastewaters. SBR treatment for wastewater can produce an effluent which is near tertiary quality, can operate over a wide range of hydraulic and organic flow variations, and can be monitored and operated remotely through the use of telephone lines. BOD less than10 mg/l and suspended solids are typically less than 10 mg/L each. The system can be easily configured for nutrient reduction. Treatment plants are available in fiberglass tanks, steel or concrete, depending on size and local requirements. Siting of these plants is easy because all tanks are buried and totally enclosed for odour and noise control. To make the system more economical, we can supply the controls alone. The tanks and other equipment can be purchased by the owner to our specifications. This reduces the cost as the materials can be those locally available at the lowest cost.
